Welcome to the Club Car Christmas Caboose, the new shop which will be open year-round during the hours of the Club Car Restaurant, 10 am to 3 pm. The boutique has an interesting evolvement. Glenn and Dale Perry’s mother, Davey (Davina), collected Santa Claus and Father Christmas figures for many years. She was well known in the community as an avid collector. Over the years her Santas were displayed at the Alleghany Art Center, and on Christmas Tours in her home. She also loaned them to friends to display in their homes for holiday tours. The majority of the items you see in the store were part of her vast collection.
The Christmas shop has a dual purpose. Most items are for sale. The ones displayed on the high shelves are part of a “Santa Museum” – they are more dear to the heart of the Perry family, and are not for sale, but exhibited for all to see as a memoriam to Davey. Those would be the ones that reflect the family’s great pride in their Scottish heritage – the Santa bagpiper, Scottish companions, and those with other special meaning for the family.
Displayed on one of the shelves is a construction by Glenn’s wife, Cindy, whose imagination wove clever bits together into a house filled with Santa Claus and several of Davey’s other passions. Another one is located at the foot of one of the larger trees – a rustic stairway with a lighted tree. These are on exhibit only; there will be more to come for sale. Check them out!
Besides Santas, there are many works for sale by local artists and friends, such as Nancy Smith, Anne Gilbert, Karen Sgarrella-Tharp, Sally Myers, and of course, Cindy. Many times as you enter the shop you’ll find “Santa’s elves” working hard to create new items for your purchasing pleasure. We’ll even take orders for some items.
