The Historic Masonic Theatre, Masonic Amphitheatre Announces 2017/2018 Season

The Historic Masonic Theatre presents its 2017/2018 Season of Shows and Events with the first pre-season show featuring the return of the Grammy Award winning, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives on Friday, September 15 at 8:00 pm.

The 2017/2018 Season offers variety in the Theatre and Amphitheatre with a wide range of entertainment, movies and shows that are sure to please. The 2017/2018 Season is the second Season of Events for the restored Theatre which experienced a complete 6.9 million dollar renovation in 2016. Many event tickets may be purchased via a subscription program which offers savings on events in the subscription series. Following the Friday evening performance of Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, on Saturday, September 16 at 11:00 am is the popular 90-minute Masonic Theatre Tour.

The Allegheny Mountain String Project will offer an “Evening of Folk Music” performed by guest musicians and students at the Masonic Amphitheatre beginning at 6:00 pm on September 16.  A family picnic begins at 5:00 pm.  The ”Evening of Folk Music” will feature world-class musicians from across the country.

“You Only Live Twice” (50th Anniversary) on Thursday, September 28 at 7:00 pm; “Kingsman: The Secret Service” on Friday, September 29 at 7:00 pm; “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” (20th Anniversary), October 1 at 2:30 pm are featured on Spy Movie Weekend in the John E Hillert Auditorium of The Masonic Theatre.

The Theatre’s Underground Lounge and Café will showcase live entertainment throughout the Season.  The Woodshedders appear on Friday, October 6 at 8:00 pm.  The Woodshedders are an Indi Roots Rock band boasting four all-original studio albums and performances at hundreds of festivals and shows. Advanced Tickets are $8 and Tickets at the Door are $10.

Virginia Opry presented by Appalfolks of America in the Theatre Auditorium is featured on Saturday, October 7 at 8:00 pm. Tickets range from $12 to $22.

“Tuesday’s with Morrie” starring Jamie Farr and presented by Alleghany Highlands Arts Council is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11 at 7:30 pm in the Theatre Auditorium.  “Tuesdays with Morrie” is the autobiographical play by Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor.  Jamie Farr, from M.A.S.H. stars as Morrie.  Tickets art Adult: $25; Student: $8 and are purchased through the Arts Council.

The Theatre Underground Lounge and Café will feature an Open Mic once a month.  October’s musical host is Nickie Calhoun and the first Open Mic is Thursday, October 12 at 7:00 pm.

Friday, October 13 at 8:00 pm in The Historic Masonic features “Friday the 13th”, A Something Wicked Movie Event, time to get primed for Halloween with this horror classic.

Back in the John E Hillert Auditorium is Keith Bryant in Concert on Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 pm.  Keith Bryant is an Alleghany Highlands native.  In his career, he has released four independent studio albums.  Tickets range from $12 to $30.

“Young Frankenstein” plays on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 pm. “Young Frankenstein” is a riotously silly spoof featuring a fantastic performance by Gene Wilder.

For the 2017 Fall Foliage Festival, Theatre Tours will take place on Friday, October 20 at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and on Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.  Tours last 45 minutes and include all four floors of the Theatre.  The Guthrie Brothers: “Everything Everly, A Tribute to the Everly Brothers” is scheduled for Friday, October 20, at 7:30 pm.  Tickets range from $15 to $30.  On Saturday, October 21 at 7:00 pm, The Announcers return for their annual Fall Festival concert to benefit The Clifton Forge Shrine Club.

Something Wicked Haunted House returns to The Historic Masonic Theatre on Friday, October 27 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 28 at 6:00 pm.  All four floors will be lovingly prepared for one purpose: to make you scream.  Tickets, $5.

Live from the Underground Lounge and Café on Friday, November 3 at 8:00 pm, the “Big Lick Conspiracy: Improv Comedy”. “Big Lick Conspiracy” is a hilarious, improv comedy based entirely on audience suggestions, along with sketch comedy. Advance Tickets: $8; at the door: $10.

“Bluegrass Meets Gospel at the Masonic” presented by Appalfolks of America on Saturday, November 4 at 8:00 pm and features The Wilson Creek Band and Mike Lee and Friends.  Tickets range from $12 to $22.

Soup-er Sunday, A Gastronomical Foodraising Event at the Masonic Amphitheatre on Sunday, November 5 at 1:00 pm, raises money for the Food Pantry while serving up delicious soups by area chefs.   Enjoy our 2016 Souper Sunday YOUTUBE video.

“Peter and the Wolf” and “Sleeping Beauty” danced by Roanoke Ballet Theatre in the John E Hillert Auditorium is scheduled for Saturday, November 11 at 2:30 pm. “Peter and the Wolf”, the greatest of all works for narrator and orchestration, tells the story of a young boy who disobeys his grandfather and climbs over the garden wall. “Sleeping Beauty”, set to Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score stays true to the story-book charm, this ballet casts a spell of delight all the way

John McEuen & Friends present: “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” in the John E Hillert Auditorium on Sunday, November 12 at 5:00 pm.

Enjoy a unique evening that celebrates the music of the landmark ‘Circle’ album, instigated in 1971 by John McEuen, founding member of the Grammy Award Winning group, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  Tickets range from $20 to $40.

ROEBUCK: The Band returns to the Theatre with special guest, Sean K Preston on Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 pm. Wielding a resonator guitar and a two-piece stomp board with wife, Phoenix, adding backing vocals and bass, ROEBUCK truly shines.  Tickets range from $15 to $30.

The movie classic, “Casablanca” is scheduled at the Theatre on Sunday, November 19 at 2:30 pm. One of the best-loved movies ever made starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas presented by Barter Theatre ENCORE

The Holiday Season brings, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas presented by Barter Theatre ENCORE Players on Saturday, November 25 at 3:00 pm. See Clement Clark Moore’s poem brought to life on stage as only the Barter Players can.  It’s pure Christmas magic. Tickets range from $10 to $25.  “Carols and Cocoa: A Grinchy Treat” is scheduled for Friday, December 1 immediately after the Clifton Forge Christmas Parade. The movie is shown at 7:30 pm.  The annual Clifton Forge Holiday Home Tour and Silent Auction is scheduled throughout the Historic Masonic Theatre on Saturday, December 2 from 11:00 to 6:00.
