The Con of the Mountain Clifton Forge, VA this Friday September 30 & Saturday, October 1

Dressed like a dragon with nowhere to go? Step onstage for the coolest Cosplay competition in town! Join the incredible Matt Correll from State of the Nerd, as he Emcees our second cosplay contest!

Also, there will be several cosplay panels throughout the weekend lead by professional cosplayers. So if you’re looking for tips, tricks and how to’s, make sure to check the schedule when it’s posted and get your Cosplay-Learn on!

Cosplay contest rules:  The Con of the Mountain cosplay contest will take place on Saturday at 3:30 at the amphitheater.

Sign ups will take place on Friday from 4PM until 8PM and Saturday from 10AM until 1PM at Booth D (The Mill) – Night Owl Creations. There will not be an online signup process.

  • There will be three categories based on age: 12 and under, 13 – 17, and 18 and up.
  • This is a PG, family friendly contest.
  • All prop weapons must conform to Con of the Mountain Weapons Policy.
  • Children ages ten and under may be accompanied on stage by a parent/guardian if they so desire.
  • By participating in this contest, participants give Con of the Mountain, Clifton Forge Public Library, and the Masonic Theater/Amphitheater permission to use photos and videos of their likeness.
  • Participants must be at the amphitheater 20 minutes prior to the contest starting.
  • The following is NOT allowed: projectiles of any kind (including glitter, rice, confetti, etc.); pyrotechnics; wet or sticky components, anything that could damage or distress the amphitheater.
  • First, second, and third places will be awarded in each age division, 12 and under, 13 – 17, and 18 and up, and a Best In Show award.

* All types of costumes are welcome.

* Participants need to provide a short introduction about their character/costume that will be read by the MC.

The Con of the Mountain is an event to foster a lifelong love for reading without regard for age or current reading ability.

The Cons goals:

  • To create an event that engages the local community to actively use the library and all its resources.
  • To advocate for literacy and motivate individuals to develop a lifelong love for reading.
  • To tap into the creative spirit of all individuals and foster a creative environment.
  • To reach disaffected groups and provide a safe place for them to be embraced, learn, and grow.
