The Stars and Stripes Celebration Committee of Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc. is excited to announce this year’s 241st Nation’s Birthday events! We will kick off our patriotic celebration with a Flag Day Ceremony, June 14th, at 5:30 pm at the Masonic Amphitheatre. Included in the ceremony will be flag presentations by Boy Scout Troop #2 and Girl Scout Troops #699, and Clifton Forge VFW posts #4299 and 1033. Jim "Neighbor" Smith will also take place in the flag ceremony. In addition there will be patriotic music sung by Dale Meuterspaugh and a benefit picnic supper with birthday cake. • On July 4th, we will begin the day-long celebration with a Down Town parade at 11 am. We urge you to come out and enjoy the parade or even be in it! As this is a small town celebration in the best sense of the word, we are hoping that many of our young people will hop on the bikes, carry a flag or wear something red, white and blue and march or ride in the parade. At the conclusion of the parade everyone is invited to gather at the Town Hall steps for a special ceremony honoring our Veterans. • Following a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence at the Town Hall steps we encourage you to follow our bagpipers on a short walk to the Masonic Amphitheatre for an afternoon concert and a picnic lunch. Children can enjoy painting cardboard houses and getting their faces painted. • At 6 PM, the grounds of the C & O Heritage Center open to the public, free of charge, for an evening of informal fun, food and festivities. Back by popular demand are the Ladies for Liberty singing trio followed by the 50 member Celebration Chorale presenting a Patriotic Cantata. This outstanding presentation will include a Retreat of the Colors. The miniature train at the Heritage Center will also be available to ride, for a small fee. An awesome fireworks display will take place at dusk to close out the day-long celebration. • The Stars and Stripes Committee hopes you will set aside this special holiday to join us in a day-long celebration of our Nation’s 241st birthday. Join in our parade – Join in a very unique small town celebration! Please call the Main Street Office for more information at 540 862-2000, visit our website www.cfmainstreet.com or visit our Facebook page. See you in Clifton Forge July 4th.
The Clifton Forge Shrine Club sponsors the Clifton Forge Fall Foliage Festival each year.
Each year October heralds the magnificent beauty and abundance of the Alleghany Highlands’ forest and mountains. We welcome you to scenic, busy and friendly Clifton Forge, Virginia to view the splendor of Autumn foliage and browse through the many exhibits and shows in downtown Clifton Forge.
Many types of crafts can be purchased such as handmade jewelry, wooden toys, quilts, Christmas ornaments, wood carvings, and leather goods. Typical tables at the flea market will contain a variety of antiques and collectibles: glassware, furniture, books, silverware, pottery, china, and other items to numerous to mention. The flea market, which lines the main streets of the town is one of the biggest drawing cards of the festival.
Local civic groups and organizations have a myriad of refreshments made on the premises, including fresh doughnuts, country ham sandwiches, roast beef sandwiches, home baked goods, hamburgers and hot-dogs.
Musical performances can be heard almost nonstop from such diverse types as gospel, country, blue grass, rock bands and local high school.
