7th Annual Kriskindlmarkt 2018 Clifton Forge VA

The end of November is a great time to go to Europe because one of the continent’s best traditions, Christmas markets (Kriskindlmarkts), are in full swing. From Hamburg to Zürich, town squares are transformed into winter wonderlands.  Before you book your flight out of the country, consider a trip to visit Clifton Forge, Virginia.  The Clifton Forge School of the Arts will host and welcomes you to the 7th Annual Kriskindlmarkt November 17 & 18, 2018.  Plan your visit to CFVA, arts, entertainment, eateries, shopping & lodging.

KRISKINDLMARKT looks and smells like a European Christmas village. Last year Clifton Forge School of the Arts welcomed over 2,000 guests Kriskindlmarkt has grown into a “can’t miss” event.  Enjoy “The Mill” (CFSOTA’s repurposed 100+ year old lumber mill behind the School) filled with laughter, lights, holiday scents & cheer, shopping & entertainment! German Father Christmas might make a visit.  Live music throughout the event. Hear the beautiful sounds of Garth Newel Music Center’s Allegheny Mountain String Project on Friday evening while you eat, shop, and catch the holiday spirit.

ARTISAN CRAFTS: Wood-turned bowls, cutting boards, fresh greenery, hand-made sweaters, felted alpaca hats, silk purses, blacksmith-forged items & jewelry, soaps & lotions, pottery, antique tiles, knit & crochet arts, photography, painted art, handmade jewelry, German Christmas carvings, candies & chocolate, decorative gourds, quiltings, designer wreaths, brooms & brushes, maple syrup & products. Henrietta Crandall will have her “Living Large” ladies for sale on note cards with proceeds.

THE MILL CAFE & BAR: German, Irish & Scotch breads, pastries, German beer & authentic Gluhwein (for ages 21+), mulled apple cider, & cold beverages. Fabulous German food choices for your dining-in or take-out pleasure. The Cafe & The Gallery (upstairs) provides seating to diners. Frauhlein helpers will assist diners to transport meals & drinks upstairs to their seats.

ENTRY FEE: $2 per person (cash only); Free for children 12 or younger. Dress warmly.

RAFFLES & SILENT AUCTION: Raffles of artisan-made items from KRISKINDLMARKT vendors & donors. Tickets are sold during the event with drawings done at event close (winners do not need to be present). Many beautiful items are also featured in a Silent Auction. Proceeds benefit Clifton Forge School of the Arts, the community art school of the Alleghany Highlands.

Visiting Clifton Forge is easy with Interstate 64 exits at each end of town. AMTRAK provides connections to D.C., Chicago & New York. At the west end of Town is Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and on the east end scenic Douthat State Park.

Enjoy downtown shopping, one of many eateries and take in the C&O Railway Heritage Center. You will love the small town feel, friendly citizenry and strolling the community and The Historic District.
